Employing Storytelling to Lead in a Hybrid Environment
Time: 10:00 AM-12:00 PM
Presenter: Dr. Hannah Toney

We are born storytellers. In fact, before there was language, there was story. It is the very core of the human existence. In this session, we'll investigate why storytelling matters, how to cultivate stories to influence and to build connections, and why we're all storytellers. This will be a participative session in which practitioners will begin to develop their own leadership story and to consider how to transfer the concepts into their everyday lives and work.

The Equity Paradox
Time: 1:00-2:00 PM
Presenter: Lonney Gregory

In this session, participants will:
-Define equity and equality through the DEIA lens.
-Deconstruct and reconstruct the DEI&A timeline to focus on the need for equitable practices.
-Examine the relationships between equity, diversity, and inclusion with an emphasis on belonging.
-Review equitable practices from a host of different organizations.
-Discuss ways to normalize and communicate the concept of equity vis-a-vie the concept of equality.

Owning our Differences

Presenter: Dr. Ryan Simmons

In this session, participants will:
-Examine their own understandings of generational conversations.
-Discuss personal barriers and what benefits breaking through them will bring.
-Work through practical next steps for engaging our generational strengths that brings lasting culture change to the organization.

2nd Annual Partnership Appreciation Holiday Charity Social

2020 was a remarkable year, and while we couldn’t mingle in person, we were pleased that hosting the happy hour virtually enabled more of our partnership members, who are spread out across the country, to join us. Executive Director Tyra Dent Smith spoke on behalf of AAFEA. For our charity selection for 2020, we encouraged our partnership members to donate to their local food banks to support those in need in their own communities.

AAFEA Leadership Development Workshop

Management Concepts was pleased to host the 16th Annual AAFEA Leadership Development Workshop on our virtual learning platform. The 2020 Workshop was held as an online event for the first time in AFFEA’s history.

Management Concepts also presented two sessions at the event, “Managing Change” and “Cultivating Motivation & Engagement,” part of the Professional Government Supervisor Program, a customizable private group training experience aligned with the OPM Core Competencies.
