Not a Super Hero, Just Super: Best Practices for Creating the ‘Adaptive’ Leader that Federal Agencies Need Now

Date: May 1, 2023
Time: 10:00-11:00 AM
Presenter: Julia Mullins, Product Management Director, Leadership & Management

In the current environment, federal leaders need a different set of skills to foster productive and resilient work settings for their teams. Without these environments, teams can fall prey to issues like high turnover, low productivity, and loss of morale. Using real-world examples and statistics we’ll provide compelling evidence to support this viewpoint. We’ll cover the top leadership skills needed for 2023 and beyond, discuss development techniques proven in both public and private sectors to accelerate proficiency in those skills, and close with best practices for designing a scalable, modern leadership program that incorporates those techniques to build the leadership hero your agency needs.

    In this session, participants will:
  • Discuss how the last 3 years have affected leadership teams and skills requirements
  • Identify the importance of the workplace environment and how a leader can impact it
  • Analyze the cost of not addressing leadership skills gaps
  • Assess the top leadership skills needed in the workplace for 2023 and beyond
  • Identify best practices to accelerate the development of leadership skills
  • Discuss key components of an effective leadership program

FEATURED WEBINAR

On Demand: The Power of Practice: How training programs can use experiential learning to achieve proficiency faster

Professional football coaches know better than to simply hand a rookie the playbook and expect them to immediately become a productive member of the team. yet many federal agencies do exactly this when onboarding new (or new-to career) employees. this 30-minute roundtable discussion centers on how building a training program that incorporates practice, strength/weakness assessments, and experiential learning can sharply reduce your new employees time to proficiency.

You will hear firsthand from senior federal managers about the proven approaches and components they have found effective in training programs. these best practices, employed in private sector and sports alike, give new hires a chance to become contributing team members faster, with less risk, and with less burden on the hiring manager than the traditional on-the-job training approach.
