10 Facts about PMP® Exam Changes Taking Effect December 16, 2019

After incorporating changes from the Sixth Edition of A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide), the Project Management Institute (PMI®) is taking a step into the future of Project Management best practices with a revision to the Project Management Professional (PMP®) Examination. Here is a breakdown of the exam, according to PMI:
- To earn the PMP credential, you need to meet the experience and education requirements and pass the PMP Exam, a 200-question, multiple-choice test.
- PMP certification begins on the day you pass the exam and ends on the third anniversary of the day you passed the exam. Before you can renew your three-year certification, you must earn 60 Professional Development Units (PDUs). Failure to do so will result in a one-year suspension of your PMP credential.
- The last day to take the current PMP Exam will be December 15, 2019.
- All PMP certification exams worldwide (except China) will be transitioning to the vendor Pearson VUE. For details, visit PMI.org – Exam Vendor.
- The recent publication of the new PMP® Examination Content Outline (ECO), describes the knowledge that will be tested in the new exam.
- Instead of the role delineation study that formed the based for the current domains, the newly-released ECO is based on a job task analysis and is organized by new domains that are aligned to real-life practices: People, Process and Business Environment.
- Each of the new domains has associated tasks, and each task has associated enablers.
- The weight of the new domains on the new exam is People 42%, Process 50%, and Business Environment 8%.
- The current test focuses on waterfall methodology, whereas the new test will split the focus between waterfall and agile.
- The new exam will give equal coverage to predictive and agile/hybrid approaches to project management.
